Local farms receive infrastructure awards

Fourteen farms in Berkshire County and eastern New York are among 59 farms in the Western Massachusetts region that recently received a combined $135,000 to fund infrastructure improvements through the Local Farmer Awards that are given by the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation of Agawam.Each winner received $2,500 through a competitive application process for projects that will help them expand their businesses, compete in the marketplace, and continue providing the health and environmental benefits of farming.Berkshire County farms include: Mill River Farm and Moon in the Pond Farm in Sheffield; Colonial Alpacas and Cricket Creek Farm in Williamstown; Red Shirt Farm and Square Roots Farm in Lanesborough; Colfax Farm in West Stockbridge; and Many Forks Farm in Clarksburg.New York state farms include: Cedar Farm Wholesale in Ghent, N.Y; Chaseholm Farm Creamery in Pine Plains, N.Y.; Cheval Farmstead Dairy & Provisions in Stuyvesant, N.Y.; Markristo Farm in Hillsdale, N.Y.; MX Morningstar Farm in Copake, N.Y.; and New Leaf Farm in New Lebanon, N.Y.
