Lanesborough Farms Receive State Grants for Solar Power

In November 2017, Red Shirt Farm received a $26,000 state grant to install a 9.75 kilowatt solar array on the farm — one of our first real investments in energy independence. The Berkshire Eagle covered the announcement, alongside a similar grant awarded to our neighbors at Square Roots Farm.

LANESBOROUGH — Red Shirt Farm and Square Roots Farm, both of Lanesborough, are among the 38 state farms that have received grants from the Baker-Polito Administration to implement renewable energy systems and improve energy efficiency. Red Shirt Farm received $26,000 for a 9.75 kilowatt photovoltaic system, while Square Roots Farm received $20,000 for a 12.88 kW PV system.

A third area farm, Just-A-Mere Tree Farm in Worthington, received $40,000 for a net zero maple kitchen. The grants are funded through the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources’ Agricultural Energy program in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources.
